To our Morning Star Community,

I’m taking a moment to personally reach out to all our Morning Star friends during these uncertain times.  The team at Morning Star has been thinking about so many of you and hoping you are staying happy and healthy and enjoying time with your loved ones.

Anxiety and stress have always been one of the biggest threats to our mental and physical health and in this uncharted territory we know that many of you are suffering immensely.  Concerns for our safety and for our finances are heightened and we don’t know what the future holds, which is making us all terribly uneasy.  We are here for you and we encourage you to reach out for help!  Whether you are currently engaged in treatment or even if we haven’t seen you for a while, we welcome you and we are offering online sessions that are HIPAA compliant and allow for us all to maintain our distance and safety while giving you access to our talented clinical team.  Please don’t be afraid to call us.

In these difficult times we need to diligently seek out and hold onto those things that we value the most, faith and family.  Everything we believe in will be tested at this time so we can’t let our fears become louder in our minds than everything we believed to be true two months ago.  While many of us are confined to our homes I recommend that we try to identify some things that give us a sense of purpose and pour into them in whatever ways we can.  Like the days surrounding 9/11 and other disasters in the past, there are ordinary people doing extraordinary things all around us.  Communities are coming together to help those most vulnerable and there is a real sense of “we are all in this together”.  We need to choose to focus on the truth and the good that is all around us and spend time thinking about how we can be a part of those initiatives.  Doing so will occupy and guard our minds and quiet the anxious voices.

Finally, I would urge everyone out there to do what you can to stay connected to people virtually, especially if you are feeling lonely at home.  Find things to stay occupied such as exercise, a house project, enjoying the outdoors, family games, taking a course online, reading that book that’s been collecting dust on your shelf, and spending time with the people who share your home with you.  Staying connected to people has always been an indicator and contributing factor to more positive mental health.
